Not one, but TWO National awards! Last night (20th October 2009) at the awards ceremony at East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham, Wheelbase was delighted to discover we had won—not one—but two National Training Awards, the equivalent in the education and training world of Oscars for the film industry. Regional Training Awards Winner Regional Training Awards are awarded to all entries that have showed outstanding impact and benefits as a direct result of the training. The inset shows Mick Clifford, MBE and CEO of Wheelbase together with Barbara Crampton, Curriculum Manager for Wheelbase receiving the Regional Training Award trophy. Thinking that was a huge and amazing achievement, Barbara and Mick settled down to enjoy the rest of the evening. However a few hours later their presence was again required on stage to collect their second award of the night. UK National Training Awards UK National Training Awards are awarded to entries that are exemplars of excellence. The winners are selected from the Regional Training Award winners by the regional judging panel. Each Region can award a maximum of 1 UK National Training Award per category. Wheelbase has now been invited to the final award ceremony on 10th December and one winner will be further recognised as the UK National Training Award Winners of the Year.

What does all this really mean for Wheelbase? Mick Clifford CEO of Wheelbase said “This is just fantastic. Wheelbase has an innovative view of how to change the lives of young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and this award recognises that. I am especially proud since it comes so close after the Youth Sector Development Fund award of almost £350,000 that was awarded to organisation recognised as working with excellence in this sector. With the help of this recognition and the support from the Youth Sector Development fund, I know we will be able to help more young people who will benefit profoundly for being helped with life, education and real work skills. Some congratulatory notes we have received: 'Well done to Wheelbase for this recognition of the training that is available to young people in Nottingham. As the lead member for Children's Services it is vital that young people get access to quality training opportunities.
