Racing
The Nova
Historically Wheelbase has been involved with a variety of motor sports including stock car racing and karting. Sixteen years of experience has shown that this is an excellent way of rewarding the behaviour of the client group and diverting the young people away from illegal driving and car theft.

mini before respraying
  • We race at Oxton, Notts. about one Sunday a month from March to November.
  • Clients work as a team to maintain and repair the vehicles.
  • Between two & five young people (clients & volunteers over 16) normally get to race.
  • Clients undergo off-road driver training at Safe Start, Newark before they race.
  • The off-road training is linked to Notts. Fire Services’ Impact programme which points out the dangers of unsafe driving.
  • There is a two-day race meeting one weekend in May when clients camp overnight.
  • All this helps young people to form relationships with the staff and the rest of the group and interact with the racing community.

Paint job completed
Since 2002 we have been racing Grasstrack Minis. At the end of 2004 our Mini (N13) finally gave up the ghost. Since then we have been racing a Nova (N113) but we hope to have another Mini ready to race this season.
